The FICA was established in 1972 under the FICA Act of 1971. Initially known as the Fiji Institute of Accountants, it began with 123 members, including 71 Chartered Accountants from various professional accountancy organizations and 52 licensed accountants. The first Provisional Member was admitted in November 1974, followed by the first Affiliate Accountant in February 1983. In 2021, the institute was renamed the Fiji Institute of Chartered Accountants.
